Urban Exploration is the exploring of abandoned buildings of which the public has forgotten or wish to forget. It also refers to the exploring of the Urban Landscape around you whether it be the Drains below your feet or the Tower Cranes above your head. What Urban Exploration and Infiltration are all about is learning to appreciate your surroundings and the buildings and structures around you and seeing beauty in places where many people will not.

18 imagesConstructed in 1500 on the island of Certosa, designed by architect Michele Sanmichele, the Forte di Sant' Andrea guarded the main entrance to Venice from the Adriatic -- the Porto di Lido -- for nearly 300 years. It was from here, in April 1797, that the Venetians fired upon and seized the intruding French warship, Liberateur d'Italie, killing its commander, and giving Napoleon the pretext for declaring war in May 1797. Venice surrendered 2 weeks later.

21 imagesSanta Maria della Grazia or La Grazia is an artificial island of the Venetian lagoon, northern Italy, which lies between the Giudecca and San Clemente. It rose during the Middle Ages in the place where Venice's rubble was discarded up. The island takes its name from a supposedly miraculous Madonna which was on display in its former church. In 1264 there was a home for pilgrims to the Holy Land; later it was transformed into a convent. During the Napoleonic period the convent was suppressed and changed to a powder-magazine, which in 1849 exploded destroying both the ex-convent and the church. The island was the site of an infectious diseases hospital until the end of the twentieth century.
